Adios, March!

Oh, March. I called it in my end of February post - this month we had highs in the 60s (15° - 21° C) and several snowstorms. Such a tease! But for April, I'm hoping the weather cooperates with some more consistent (and pleasant) temperatures. :)

Besides nicer weather, it's also time for some goal updates. First up is the mortgage:

$1100! It looks awesome on paper, but in reality, it's just my tax refund and proceeds from selling my wedding dress. Yes, I sold my wedding dress! This is one of those decisions that seems to fire people up, but for me it came down to the simple fact that I don't plan to wear it again and it was taking up a ton of room in the closet. Plus the woman I sold it to was overjoyed, so I'm super happy with my decision. :)

Books I read this month:
I was running a little short on time this month because I've been cramming in school stuff after work, but I still managed to fit in a little reading. I'd recommend:
  • The Rosie Project - A very different love story. It's about a man who has always had some trouble dating, so he decides to use a questionnaire to narrow down who to date. But then his friend sends Rosie to his office . .
  • From Norvelt to Nowhere - This was leftover from my Jack Gantos reading spree in February. Much like the first book in this series, the characters are funny and the plot is more than a little strange, but it was a highly enjoyable read.
And finally, my degree - so close! I have 3 more weeks of long nights and boring weekends, but then it will all be over! Can't wait. Thank you all for being so understanding and supportive! :)

Would you/did you sell your wedding dress?

  1. Woah! Over $1000 is SO AWESOME even if you did receive your tax return. I would totally sell my wedding dress (if anyone wanted to take it off my hands). It has been in a rubbermaid box in the basement for almost 5 years! Did you know someone who wanted to take it off your hands?

    1. Thanks Kristy! I listed my dress on craigslist (online classifieds) with all the measurements and luckily, someone found it and she fit into it perfectly. :)

  2. Yay for the mortgage payment and nearly finishing your degree!

I donated my wedding dress. I loved it, but they take up so much room.

  3. That's an amazing payment on the mortgage!

So impressed that you managed to part with the wedding dress (and Laura as well.) Mine takes up so much space and I really want to declutter it...but it's an older style now and out of fashion. I should have donated / sold it a decade ago!

    1. Thanks Fiona! My mom still has her wedding dress and she enjoys having it as a memento. Maybe the fashion will come back around eventually?

  4. What a beautiful dress and someone is lucky to have it! I've read Monster. When I was at a library conference I spoke to the author, and he was very keen to get the word out to teens that you can be arrested and have to deal with the consequences for "inaction" at the scene of a crime, or minor collaboration, and not just for being the main perpetrator. I can't wait to hear you've finished your degree!

    1. I'll never get tired of hearing the dress is beautiful - thank you so much! :) I thought Monster was excellent. It's one of those books that I wish my high school teachers would've read with us rather than suffer through Romeo and Juliet for the fourth year running.

  6. I'd definitely sell a wedding dress - I mean you get a gazillion photos. It still seems stylish, so no wonder you found a buyer. I'd also buy one second hand, though I already know *exactly* what dress I want (how? I did a floristry assignment a few years ago (and was single) so spent a lot of time deciding :)) I can actually buy a cheap copy online...

The Rosie Project keeps popping up 'over there' - I should look into it, I didn't see it in the book shop the other day though....

    1. I wasn't planning on buying a traditional wedding dress (we got married on the beach, so I was considering a white sundress), but my mom wanted to go dress shopping just for the experience . . and that led to buying that dress! The Rosie Project is definitely popular right now - it's making the rounds on lots of the blogs I read.

  7. I love how the skirt drapes on your wedding dress! I sold mine too - and this was before the Internet. Just put in a classified in the local paper. I don't regret selling it at all. Like you, I am never going to wear it again. And they take up so much room. My dress paid for a flight to my mother when I had a baby and no money. So well worth it.

I've read The Rosie Project. My book club read it last year. It was a fun read.

Good luck with the next few weeks. After which all your reading can be for fun! (Maybe?! Unless work intervenes!?)
