Apples in the Crockpot

We bought 21 pounds of apples this weekend and someone sent fruit flies the memo. So, some of the apples are hanging out in the crockpot now because the lid makes it an impenetrable fortress (for fruit flies at least). :)

  1. I never really understand why, but fruit flies gather at this time of year.

    1. I've had a terrible summer with them this year. Who knows why? At least the crockpot is working for now :)

  3. I plan on picking apples later in the month. Meanwhile I would love to get my hands on 21 lbs of tomatoes!

  5. I do this too, but mostly because of a lack of storage space :) Although the fruit flies are starting to emerge again.

  6. I've not had fruit flies for a while, thankfully! My former local fruit store used to attract a lot due to lots of over ripe (cheap) fruit. It's a good use of resources though - if I ever lose my current luxurious space I'll need to do this!

    1. We bought these at the farmer's market, which often has tons of fruit flies (especially the outdoor parts) and I wonder if we inadvertently brought some home with us . .
