Changing of the Goals

Not quite as dramatic as the changing of the guards, but . .

:)
4 no drive days:  This was a tough one. I drive to work 5 days a week, meaning I had to cut back on my weekend driving to meet this goal. Not wanting to become a complete hermit, I decided to run errands after work to "earn" the ability to drive on either Saturday or Sunday. It worked (for the most part) and I didn't use my car on the 3rd, 9th, 10th, and 29th.

Hot breakfast:  Unless we count warming up frozen tater tots, nope. Didn't happen.

Read 5 books:  Six this month! I enjoyed Bomb, The One and Only Ivan, Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, and The 100-Year-Old Man (click to read a longer review). Son and Happier at Home were okay.

Plan my garden: Check! I pulled the dead stuff out over the weekend, but still need to add compost. Then I can sit back and wait for warmer weather (which might suck if the weather keeps teasing us with 50-degree days followed by 30-degree days).

And for April:
Read an old book: I've been reading a ton of new books lately because I'm in a vicious cycle: read/hear about a new/popular/award-winning book, add it to my library request list, wait for the book to arrive, drive to the library to pick it up, then check out only that book. I don't browse the library shelves as often as I did in days of yore, so I'm mostly reading books written in the last 10 years (Goodreads even graphs it for you). Nothing wrong with that, but every once in a while, I need to break out of my routine, you know? Any suggestions?

Take 200 photos: I bought a new camera. (My previous model, circa 2005, was passed down to my younger brother.) I need to learn to use it, and the best way to do that is by practicing. So get ready for some (hopefully) better photos around here.

Read 168 Hours: I've heard wonderful things about this book, but I've also heard the activities and exercises are what make it so valuable. I want to take my time reading it, and  completing the activities. A month should do the trick.

Craft something: After Christmas, my craftiness needed a break to recharge. But I'm starting to feel the itch to make something . . not sure what quite yet.

In other news, I changed the blog's theme and layout a bit. I'm torn. I like having stuff on the side bar over there to the right, but I miss how sleek my old layout was. What do you think? Any preferences?

  1. Well... I don't know if this counts because it was written in 1958, but "Cripple Creek Days" by Mabel Barbee Lee is one of my very favorites. It's about her life growing up in the mining town of Cripple Creek Colorado around the turn of the century.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm fine with a little leeway... "1950" was an arbitrary number anyway. :) And it sounds good! I love books that detail everyday life - like the Little House series and Foxfire books.

  2. Wow - I can't believe you read so many books in March! That is seriously impressive. As for the no drive goal, I don't own a car so I do most of my errands via walking or using my husband's car on the weekends. I hate driving so it works out well :)

    1. I'm not a big fan of driving either! I'd really like to get a job a little closer to home. Do you walk to work?
