Library Freebie

It's common knowledge that you can borrow books for free at the library, but look what I got to take home with me (forever!) from my library:

a new bookcase/bookshelf display-type item! It used to hold children's books but a bigger, two-sided shelf replaced it. So it was outside with a free sign on it! I couldn't believe my good fortune - I think it will be perfect in the baby's room. My plan is to give it a good scrub to try to remove those adhesive marks and then fill it with books! Thankfully my parents saved some of my books from when I was younger and I've received a few as gifts so I'm excited and ready to get set up!

Acquired anything for free lately?

  1. This is awesome!!! The stuff we tend to get rid of at our library, I tend not to have a use for, but this is perfect! :-) It would also look awesome with some paint.

Speaking of free, we've been purging and donating tons of stuff from our basement, and when we dropped off one of our loads, a gentleman was dropping off a large amount -- including a two-drawer metal filing cabinet (I've been searching for one FOREVER, but they're costlier than you'd think). Can't wait to sand it down and give it a fun coat of paint -- and do some more organizing in the office with it!! :-) Plus, *FREE*!!!

    1. Yay purge! I remember my hunt for a filing cabinet a few years ago - and I'm sure the prices have only increased since then! Glad you found one for the best possible price :)

  2. Awesome!! I'm a little jealous (though I wouldn't have any where logical to put it!)

The last free things were from my mum - does that count? I was cold at her place on Saturday, so I took one of her zip up vests and she said I could have it. And some socks the week before - weirdly, both of these items the bf noted as new. Very observant!!

    1. Sure it counts, free is free! Mothers are great :) Does your bf normally notice new clothes? Mine wouldn't - I tell him about 8 times before I leave for a hair appointment so he remembers to "notice" when I get home (probably evidence that I'm desperate for haircut compliments) :)

  3. So cool! I would have been tempted to use it as a planter, LOL!

  4. Oh, Amanda!! I desperately wanted one of those when J was a baby. I used to haunt catalogues trying to find afforable versions but they were so expensive. I'm so happy for you, that is a beautiful piece of furniture to begin childhood with! Especially knowing how much you love to read and what good times lie ahead sharing books with your little one! :D

    1. I'm sorry you couldn't get one for J - they're super expensive here too! I can't wait to read with my little one :)

  5. What a perfect piece of furniture! So many of the ones in the stores these days are made of cheap material and cost a fortune. Not free but I've had success lately filling our bookshelves with some classic children's literature from our local Value Village for only one or two dollars a book! If you're having a baby shower maybe each guest would bring a favourite book to help fill the shelf!

    1. Sounds like your Value Village has great bargains :) I'd love to get books at my shower! I put a few of the Indestructibles brand books on my wish list so I can get them at a discount if no one buys them for us.

  6. What a perfect find! Much better for a child than a normal book shelf. They can see the books! And that's obviously why libraries use them. Hope the scrubbing brought it up to a good state for you.

    1. Yes, I love that this shelf will show off the front covers! It does look better, I'll have to show an updated view of it once the baby's room is furnished (right now we have just the shelf and a bureau).
