Everyday Life

It's been a good week. :)

Robins are considered the first sign of spring around here, and guess what Mr. G spotted last week? A robin!
That robin may be regretting his decision when we get another snowstorm on Tuesday, but it was nice to see him while we could.

I made bread! (Well, I put the ingredients in the bread machine, and 4 hours later, took out a perfect loaf of bread.)
I am sorely disappointed by the bread selection at my local grocery store, and unless I want to pay $4-5 dollars a loaf, I can't find any that are vegetarian! So I figured if I make my own loaf 2 or 3 times a month, it'll help us save a little money over store bought. Plus, there's not much better than warm, fresh bread with butter . .

And there's been a whole lot of typing going on . .
Getting closer to being finished every day!

How're things going for you? What's the first sign of spring in your neck of the woods?

Comments

  1. Love the blue of your wall.

First signs of autumn in my neck of the woods? Need a blanket at night. Cool enough for a hot bath.

    1. Thank you Lucinda! That's the sunroom - a room we don't really need, but I adore :)

I love the feeling of being under a blanket! And the extra crisp air of autumn.

  2. I was also admiring your work space (and that fan!). I love waking up and going to sleep (early these days!) to the sound of the birds. Spring is definitely in the air - even if it is below zero here this morning.

    1. Thank you Kristy! The sunroom is probably my favorite room in the house. :) Waking up to the birds is one of the best things ever!

  3. Glad you are hard at work :) I saw one robin and it was so early; I hope it survived. Due for a massive snow storm Wednesday!

    1. I think it's the same storm heading for both of us! Can't wait to see how this actually turns out since they've changed the forecast about 8 times :)

  4. Your bread looks great! We have snowdrops and daffodils appearing in our garden, although it's still cold (ish).

    1. Thanks Laura! Our snowdrops are still just little leaves poking out of the ground at this point, but still very exciting! :)

  5. Hooray for productivity! (That makes it sound like you're a factory...um...yeah, you're not. ;-)) We've seen robins here for WEEKS and have had at least two major storms since, the poor things. I do enjoy hearing the different birds who are brave enough to make an appearance, though. :-)

    1. Yes, hooray! :) I love listening to the birds too . . usually the really noisy ones don't stick around all winter so I'm pumped for their return.

  6. I love your workspace photo! Looks like a calm and lovely place to get work done. Hope it is going well!

The robin is so cute. We don't have them here at all. I love his (or her) little tan-coloured tummy, lol! The first sign of spring where we live is usually pink cherry blossoms blooming.

    1. Thank you Fiona! I think it's a boy robin because it has a dark head. I love cherry blossoms too and Washington DC actually has a festival to celebrate their blooming every spring - I need to make a point to see it!

  7. I have to agree with you that there's not much better than warm bread and butter. :) I shouldn't be eating too much carbs for my wedding diet though lol.

    1. haha, probably not the best diet food, no! I actually had a really tough time eating in the days before my wedding (and especially the day of) because of nerves!

  8. The bread looks delicious :) I was really put off by the bread at the supermarket as well, with all their long lists of weird ingredients. Before I went gluten free, I tried making my own, but now I just don't eat it.

    I hope the weather stays spring-like :)

    1. Thank you! I had an old boss who had to stop eating bread made with flour and switched to rice bread. She said it felt like eating sponges so she stopped eating it too.

I second that - I'm in the mood for spring! :)

  9. How does bread end up not being vegetarian?

Like Liz, I stopped eating bread when I had digestion issues regularly. Since starting on the 'weight loss' program, I've followed her recommendations, and using very high fibre 'fancy' (pricey) bread, and haven't had any trouble. I don't know if I'm over my issues, or it's better bread. In the past, I made fresh bread with a former BF, it was such a delight, but so easy to overindulge (at least I do!)

    1. A lot of bread includes lard (pig fat), rennet (baby cow stomach), or whey (usually includes rennet) or weird ingredients I'd never heard of. I started out emailing companies to see if their bread had animal products when I wasn't sure from the label, but the answers weren't very satisfying. So I switched to a fancy "natural" line of breads with short ingredients lists like flour, salt, water, sugar, etc. Glad you found a bread that works better for you! :) It's very easy to overindulge in fresh bread!
