30x30 October Challenge

Since it's already October 7th, I'm a little late for an October challenge, but oh well. RA is hosting a 30x30 challenge this month and I'm in the mood to participate! Basically, you choose any combination of 30 clothing items and shoes to wear for the entire month of October. Head over to her post for the exact rules.

RA excludes some things from her count, like workout gear, socks, and underclothes, so I did too. However, she counts some accessories toward her 30 (like belts and necklaces). I rarely wear any jewelry besides my wedding and engagement rings and haven't worn a belt in years, so I decided to skip those and just pick out clothing and shoes. And since we had a slight laundry snafu this weekend, I'll be choosing a few more tops this week after I catch up on laundry. (As far as Halloween goes, I'm still undecided about whether or not I'll dress up, so I'll make a decision later.)

Ready to see what I'll be wearing?

1 work shirt (unpictured; we are required to wear them on Fridays), 2 dresses, 3 sweaters, 2 short sleeve shirts, 2 sleeveless shirts, 3 long sleeve shirts, 1 skirt, 3 pairs of pants, 1 pair of flats, 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of jeans (unpictured, because I remembered I need them as I was typing this!) = 20 items

Just compiling all these pictures shows me how much black I wear . . and so many neutrals! October is a tough month to plan for because the weather is so variable (90° then 60° type stuff) so I hope I don't freeze :) Maybe I'll put a warmer pair of shoes and long sleeve sweater on the back burner as a contingency plan.

In the end, I'm hoping this challenge will help me clear out my closet or at least prove to me that I could get by with far less clothing. I'd love to hear what you think of my clothing and shoe choices. Anyone else interested in the challenge? :)

  1. I like your clothes! Our temps are ranging from 50 to 70, but we expect frost at night soon! The clothes I wear to work are already quite limited (I only have so much for each season) but I have more variety than I need in casual.

    1. Thank you! Me too - I have so much more fun shopping for casual items (and they're usually more comfortable too) so I have plenty more of those than work-appropriate stuff. Thankfully, most of these tops can be hidden under one of the sweaters and become appropriate ;)

  2. I love your collage! I wear a uniform to work every day but Friday (and I only work every second Friday!). So I could probably pretty easily do this sort of challenge... Actually I'm already thinking about what I might pack for my week away in Vietnam. I'm not usually so forward thinking (the trip is at the end of the month).

So is this a small part of a larger wardrobe, or do you have quite a refined wardrobe?

    1. A work uniform sounds nice! Some days it would be nice to have one less thing to worry about. Ohh, Vietnam :) That sounds like a great vacation destination!

I have a list of all my clothes here: http://thegiraffelife.blogspot.com/2013/07/how-much-clothing-do-you-have.html if you're interested. The clothes pictures are just a portion of my 221 items (actually 222 now since I bought a new dress last month).
