What's Making Me Happy Today

THE WEATHER!

After a month of 90º+ temperatures, we finally turned off the AC Wednesday night, opened all the windows, and let the wind rush in. There are few things in life that make me happier than a breeze. I'm that weird person who steps outside in the morning, excited to find out how the air smells that day, and it's even better with the windows open - then I can tell from bed. :) Of course, the cats are just as thrilled by the open windows and breeze. Thursday's high was only 74º and today's expected to be 79º. It's completely crazy for late July, which makes me double grateful. It's perfect!

The hibiscus:
We planted this three years ago when a bunch of our flower bed plants died at once. I love it! The flowers are huge and they attract hummingbirds, one of my favorites. It's hard to believe that when we first planted this, it barely grew to a foot tall! It dies back completely each fall, and watching it grow from nothing into a four-foot tall bush is pretty impressive. Here it is in June:

The Secret Keeper:

I just started but I'm already hooked!

A new food:
These awesome veggie burgers that are made of - you guessed it - vegetables
Most of the veggie burgers I see in the store are made with preservatives and hydrolyzed soy protein, some things I'm not too keen on eating if I can avoid it. On the other hand, the veggie burgers I've made for myself have never been as tasty as these, so I'm happy to pay for the convenience and yum factor ;)

Resale shops:
We bought a set of two of these giant pillows over the weekend at a resale shop. They're super comfy and the pillowcase unzips, so I can change the fabric cover if I'm in the mood. (Of course, I'd also have to be in the mood to procure fabric and actually make a new cover, but that's not important right now.)

So that's a peek into some happy happenings around here. How're things going in your neck of the woods?

  1. Happy cats! Mine love open windows too. We have a screened in porch and they'll sit out there for hours! I don't eat processed soy burgers either, so I'm a fan of Dr. Praeger's!

    1. Yeah, I can see why you're a fan. I wasn't sure what to expect when I opened the wrapper and the burgers were so green but it was delicious!
