Garden Update - July 10th

It's that time again!
Just what I like to see - lots of green! The weather seems to have settled down. It's been hot and dry (but humid - makes no sense) for about 2 weeks straight. It's been keeping me busy with watering, but the plants are loving the sun! Everything is getting huge :)

We have about 5 cucumbers growing (I say about 5 because cucumber plants are hiding experts. We've gone out in years past to find 8-inch cucumbers that we had never noticed so I don't trust my count.):
 A bell pepper:
Cherry tomatoes! Our harvest total stands at 1. But I know I'll be throwing my hands up in August when we have tons:
I had my first pest visit of the year - a slug, bleh! - hopefully you'll forgive me for not taking his picture! I'll gladly transport spiders, fireflies, millipedes - but slugs gross me out. I've heard the shells from salted pistachios ward them off so we sprinkled them around and crossed our fingers.
The zinnias are blooming! I love that they're all different colors :)
The tomato plant isn't looking too good . . poor thing. I don't know what's wrong, but it seems to be slowly turning brown. I've tried moving it into the sun, the shade, more water, less water - ugh. Any ideas?
I haven't mentioned this before, but Black-Eyed Susans are one of my favorite plants. We have four by the front door. They start blooming around the 4th of July and don't stop until late September. :) They're right on schedule this year:
How's your garden?

  1. Raised bed gardening is so handy and ideal for a limited space. You'll soon have a nice harvest!

    1. Our soil is terrible, so a raised bed seemed like our best bet when we first moved here. It's worked out nicely so far.

Thank you - I'm hoping for a good harvest :)

  2. Looks like lots of yummy food is on the way!

By the way, I looked at your slug and immediately gave him the evil-eye. Hopefully he gets the message.

    1. haha, thank you! That should take care of him!

  3. Beautiful. Black eyed Susans are my Mom's favorite flower. Your garden looks very happy and green.

    1. Thank you! Your mom has good taste ;)

  4. Your garden is lovely! There is nothing better than getting your hands dirty and make some vegetables grow.

I love comments - please leave one (or twelve)!
